Lightning Lady

Marion

Marion is an historic wooden motor sailor built by the Largs boatyard on the Clyde in 1937. Built of pitch pine planking over an oak frame she has a Gaff mounted sail coupled with a 3-cylinder Lister diesel engine (circa 1960} driving a single shaft mounted 11” propellor.
For a number of years she was used as the “Safety Boat” for the Largs sailing club before going into private ownership.
She has capacity for up to 8 passengers and has a purpose built focsle which contains:
Manually operated sea toilet
Chart table
2 x gas hob
Small fitted sink unit
2 x seating units which convert to single bunk
Marion was re-furbished by her previous owner in 2016 to a high standard, she had a full survey in 2017 and all recommendations were carried out by the owner. The boat was re-varnished and new anti-fouling applied by R W Davis boatyard in 2025.
Marion was granted a Boat Safety Certificate in 2023 [expiring 30/03/27]. A separate valuation report was carried out in 2023 prior to joining the Boat Station as one of her trip boats and was given a valuation estimate of £27,000.

Propulsion is via a vintage Stuart Turner 5HP single cylinder 2-stroke engine, which has been fully rebuilt at a cost of over £2,000.
The boat has been re-propped with a 3-bladed 10" brass propeller, which pushes Lollypop along at 4 knots fully loaded.
Lollypop has a new fiberglass sunshade replacing the original fabric one.

Meanderer

Meanderer is a clinker-built wooden launch built in approximately 1953. It is powered by a Vetus three cylinder diesel engine and benefits from full canvas weather covers.
The boat has been fitted with removable wooden seating for up to 6 passengers for its current use as part of The Black Shed fleet of classic wooden trip boats.
An extensive renovation programme was carried out in 2023 by Mark Rolt at the Historic Wooden Boatyard in Bristol consisting of a number of wooden ribs and planking being replaced along with major renovation work to the "Cuddy" area.
Meanderer is versatile in its operation and can be adapted to a multitude of uses.
